IntroductionAfter I retired, I set a goal to become a “man of God”. I began to spend several hours each day seeking God in His Word. His Holy Spirit is faithful and a great teacher. As I have walked with Him, He has said two things to me:
1) Teach My people how to use My Word for their healing. (God wants His people well so that they can serve Him.)
2) Teach My people who My Son is and what He has done for them. (I was taken back by this second thing. However, after many hours of teaching by the Holy Spirit about Jesus and who I am in Christ, I understand why. If a person thinks that forgiveness of sins and going to heaven are the only reasons and results of Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection, that person has missed the other 130 plus promises in the Bible concerning Jesus’ crucifixion, death, and resurrection and eternal life.)
Anyway, I am trying to follow the Holy Spirit’s direction. As He directs, I tell, teach, and give by other means the teachings that I have gotten from Him. One issue that I want to address is concerning doctors and their role in healing. Then I will relate some of personal healing testimonies.
What is the role of doctors in healing?
What do you do the minute you “feel sick”? Do you run to the doctor? Or go before God in prayer and ask Him what to do? Do you remember the Israelites? When they came up against an enemy, they would go to God and ask Him what to do - how to defeat the enemy. The only time they lost a battle was when they did not seek God’s guidance first. The same is true for us today. If God tells you to go immediately to the doctor, go immediately in faith. If He tells you to do something else, do what He tells you to do in faith.
Concerning doctors, the medical profession is a truly natural “helps ministry” from God. How many people do you know that would not longer be alive today if it had not been for doctors and medicine? Doctors are of God! Doctors are limited in their abilities at times. A good doctor will tell you that God is the Real Healer.
What happens if you need a miracle? A life saving miracle? All things are possible with God! God is our healer- Jehovah Rapha. Doctors need to use medicine for healing but at the same time direct their patients toward God and His Word as their Ultimate Healer.
The Holy Spirit told me that you can’t start building your Ark the day the Flood comes. As the Holy Spirit directs, you are to build your Ark using the Word of God every day.
Testimony Below you will find some testimonies that God has shown His power and glory in my life. They are examples of attacks by the devil and deliverance by God, His Words and His angels. I give God great honor and glory for His faithful:
Vocal Cords SurgeriesIn October 1994, I was working in a place where many people smoked cigarettes. I developed hoarseness in my voice. I was diagnosed with a nodule on my vocal cords caused by a papilloma virus. I had two or three operations a year, ten total, over a four-year period. The doctor told me these could go on forever unless he could “get all of the virus.” I was getting close to giving up when one day God led me to Exodus 14:13 – 14. It was Moses, the children of Israel, the Egyptians, and the Red Sea experience. I began to tell God that I needed a “Red Sea” experience with my vocal cords. I needed a MIRACLE experience. About the same time my Atlanta doctor said he had done all he could do and suggested I go to a specialist at the University of Alabama’s Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. I quoted many times a day Exodus 14:13 – 14, “Fear not Tom! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians (things of this world/this virus) you see today, you will never see again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you stand still/keep your peace. I told God that if I were to be healed, He would have to do it. The new doctor at the UAB Medical Center said for me to take some “concentrate cabbage pills” that had helped others with the same type of problem. The doctor said that he would “give it his best shot.” I felt all of this had to be God. In December 1999, I had my final surgery. I kept quoting Exodus 14:13-14. In late January, I went for my one-month check up. My voice sounded terrible. The day I went for my check up I was prepared for almost anything. When the doctor looked at my vocal cords, he said, “They look fine. Come back in six months.” As I walked out of the doctor’s office, my vocal cords got stronger and stronger. Praise God! He had healed me. I never went back because I knew that I was healed.
(See Exodus 14:1-3 & 13-18 & 15:1-18)
Shoulder/Arm ImmobileBefore retirement in 2005, I developed a constant pain in my left shoulder and arm. They would not move without pain. I went to the doctor with constant pain caused by possible stress and tendonitis.
I starting quoting Scripture and standing for my healing for my shoulder and arm. Neither began to manifest healing. Why was God and Scripture not working for me? I knew that it was clear, regardless of man’s teaching or my experience, that the Word of God was true. God doesn’t lie. For me to see “signs and wonders”, that is, my healing manifested, I needed to line me up with God and His Word. Faith was a key ingredient. Since “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”, I began to immerse myself, four to 6 hours a day, in God’s Word, especially in healing.
For example, the issue came up concerning God’s ability to heal anybody, anytime. Sure He can but is it His will to heal? What does the Bible teach about healing? I believed that God was able and if it was His will to heal me, I knew I would be healed. Faith was the key ingredient for me to receive my healing. I continued to seek the Holy Spirit for Biblical truth. The Holy Spirit led me to do a word study on “healing” and “health” using Young’s Concordance and my Bible. This study was a turning point for me concerning my healing. Also, the Holy Spirit led me to healing tapes by Keith Moore of Moore Life Ministries in Branson, Missouri. Keith taught Healing School at Kenneth Hagin’s Rhema Bible Institute for several years.
Again, the first issue that I needed to resolve was not that God was able to heal me, but was it His will. Tradition and experience had led me to believe that some times it was not God’s will to heal. This little doubt “messed” with my faith. Hebrews 11: 6 says without faith it is impossible to please God. As James 1: 6-8 puts it, I was double minded. When I heard the word “sick” and “healed”, I thought “doctor” only.
The word study was conclusive for me. It is God’s will for all men to be healed all the time. Healing is part of salvation. Just like any other issues of salvation- peace with God, forgiveness of sins, prosperity, and etc.- man has a choice to believe and receive or doubt and do without. Also, like Romans 12:2 says, I must renew my mind with the Word of God to prove what the will of God is. I renewed my mind and renewed my mind. As I now begin to hear “sickness” and “healing”, I began to immediately think, “The devil is trying to oppress me.” and “God is my source for healing.” “Jesus took my infirmities and carried away my diseases. By His stripes, I was healed.”
Since I had felt led by the Holy Spirit to trust God and His word for my healing, I stayed with my renewing of my mind. As I continued to quote these verses and listen to my healing tapes, I would be obedient to the direction of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. I began to see changes inside and out - “signs and wonders.”
It took about nine months for my shoulder and arm to manifest my healing. The Word of God made it happen. The doctor never saw it again.
FissureAlso, during this same time with the shoulder and arm, I developed a fissure, a tear on my rectum. I went to the doctors but with no success. The fissure might need surgery. The doctor told me that “sometimes” they heal themselves. The fissure took about six months to heal. I did see the doctor twice. As I said, He told me that I had two choices - a painful operation to repair the painful tear or “sometimes” they heal themselves over time.” I felt led to trust God and His Word. All pain did not go immediately. Over a period of time (By the way, “healing” means “to stitch.” Sometimes it takes time.), God stitched the tear together again - six months later, no fissure and no pain. Today, if the pain tries to return, it takes only a day or two for the symptoms to leave.
Muscle PainI developed a pain, like a pulled muscle, in my left leg muscle one day. It came upon me very quickly. It hurt very badly all night. I kept quoting the Word of God over it. The next morning I got mad at the pain. I yelled/ screamed, “Pain leave in Jesus name.” The pain left as quickly as it had come and has never returned. I was healed. Glory to God, His Word works.
Wasp and Yellow Jacket StingsOn the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Saturdays of July 2007, I was mowing grass. The 1st Saturday a Red Wasp stung me. I had some history of reactions to insect stings. I was hot and immediately went to take a shower and cool off. While I was in the shower, I felt my body swelling like air was being pumped into me. I call my wife and we ran for the Hospital Emergency Room. (I remembered that my doctor told me to be careful if I ever got another sting.) The Emergency Room staff quickly got medicine into me. I deflated about as fast as I inflated. They gave me a prescription to take for a week and let me go home. I felt led by the Holy Spirit to take my medicine just as the doctor prescribed. I felt the Holy Spirit told me that by the end of week I would be healed. In one week I was healed.
After all the excitement, I begin to think about the experience. An unexpected thing had happened to me. I had totally depended on the hospital, doctors, and medicine. I had thought very little about God and His Word. The Holy Spirit begins to show me that in an emergency I did what was in my heart. I needed to renew my mind even more! He brought to my remembrance I Peter 5:5-11, a passage of Scripture that I had been reading daily for a long time. It says to “humble yourself under the mighty hand of God”, “casting all your cares upon Him”, and “resist the devil firm in your faith” and God will bring results. I began to meditate more on this passage.
The 2nd Saturday I was mowing grass and was stung by one Yellow Jacket. This time I thought about God and my verses but still went to the Emergency Room. I did not swell all over like I did the first time. My hand and arm did swell. In the Emergency Room I got my deflation shots and prescription and went home for another week of recuperation. The Holy Spirit continue to lead me in more Scriptures and meditation on I Peter 5:5-11.
The 4th Saturday I was mowing and I was stung by two Yellow Jackets. This time I immediately got myself into God’s hands. I gave myself a shot and went to the Emergency Room. I had no bad swelling this time. I did get another deflation shot and prescription and went home. The next morning I awoke at 4:30 AM and the word ”immediately” came into my mind. I immediately knew what it meant. This time I was healed immediately. I got up about 6:30 AM and went to check out the sting area. I saw two black dots and absolutely no redness. My skin was a normal color. Praise God! His Word had delivered me and healed me.
Lightning StrikeOne evening during this past summer we has a terrible storm with a lot of lightning. I waited until I thought all was quiet and peaceful. I took our dog out for a run. I started back into the house. (Things went into slow motion for a moment.) All of a sudden I glanced over my shoulder and a beam of lightning came toward me. It hit a canopy looking image around me and disintegrated. Immediately I heard a deafening boom. I immediately went into the house and told my wife what had happened. Later Psalms 91 came to my mind. It was like the Holy Spirit was saying to me. You remember all the times you have prayed Psalms 91 over you and your family? That saved you. (I claimed every day God was my refuge and fortress. My God in whom I trust. No evil can befall me or come near my dwelling.) Praise God! He was and is my refuge and fortress, My God in whom I trust. I was under His wings. I was saved.
Healing Scriptures
HandoutsSo Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them and there He tested them, and said, “If you did diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none (not permit any) of the diseases on you which I have brought ( permitted) on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” Ex 15:22-26
Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Ps 103:1-5
Fools, because of their transgressions, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. They cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Ps 107:17-21
Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken. Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. Is 53:4-5
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a work, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. Mat 8:16-17
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Mat 9:35
And Jesus was going about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people. Mat 4:23
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Mat 9:35
And having summoned His twelve disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Mat 10:1
Jesus departed from there, skirted the Sea of Galilee, and went up on the mountain and sat down there. Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them. So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
Mat 15: 29 - 31
And He went up to the mountain and summoned those whom He Himself wanted, and they come to Him. And He appointed the twelve, that they might be with Him, and that He might send them out to preach and to have authority to cast out the demons. Mk 3:13
Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe, will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the work through the accompanying signs. Amen. Mark 16:14-20
And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to heal diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God, and perform healing. Lk 9:1-2
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11
For our light affliction, which is by for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. II Cor 4:17-18
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. II Cor 10:4-6
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us ( for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. … And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal 3:13-14, 29
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, …Eph 6:10-19
…being confidence of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; …Phil 1:6
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. II Tim 1:7
By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Heb 11:11
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Heb 13:8
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:6-7
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save (sozo) the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:14-16
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth”’ who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by who stripes you were healed. I Pet 2:21-24
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. I John 18-23
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoice greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. II John 2-4
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Rev 12:10-11
